The first thing to keep in mind is that the same 4 C’s you paid attention to when buying your diamond is also looked at when we buy your diamond. These factors are Color (how white the diamond is), Clarity (the number of imperfections or flaws inside the diamond), Cut & proportion (these determine how the light refracts in the diamond making it either more brilliant or duller), and the Carat weight (how large the diamond is in size). People often don’t know the difference between a diamond certificate and a diamond appraisal. Certificates also called diamond grading reports, are made by a team of gemologists from a reputable Gemological Laboratory like GIA (Gemological Institute of America). Certificates include all of the important information about a diamond, including cut, color, clarity, and carat weight. Certificates are also only issued for loose diamonds, not mounted ones, and never include a price. Appraisals, on the other hand, can be done on mounted or loose diamonds and give the item being appraised a dollar value. Appraisals are usually used for insurance purposes.
